Apple and Mango Chutney is a delightful and tangy condiment that pairs well with various dishes, especially grilled meats, sandwiches, or as a topping for snacks.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large apple, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 ripe mango, peeled, pitted, and diced
  • 1 medium-sized red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Fruits and Vegetables:

    • Peel, core, and dice the apple.
    • Peel, pit, and dice the ripe mango.
    • Finely chop the red onion.
  2. Cook Onion:

    • Heat vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent.
  3. Add Fruits:

    • Add the diced apple and mango to the pan. Cook for a few minutes until the fruits start to soften.
  4. Add Sugar and Spices:

    • Stir in the brown sugar, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and red chili flakes. Mix well.
  5. Add Vinegar:

    • Pour in the white vinegar and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Simmer:

    • Reduce the heat to low and let the chutney simmer. Allow it to cook until the fruits are soft and the mixture thickens, stirring occasionally.
  7. Adjust Seasoning:

    • Taste the chutney and adjust the sweetness, spiciness, or salt according to your preference. Add more sugar if you desire a sweeter chutney.
  8. Cool and Store:

    • Once the chutney reaches the desired consistency, remove it from heat and let it cool.
  9. Store:

    • Transfer the Apple and Mango Chutney to clean, dry jars for storage.
  10. Serve:

    • Serve the chutney as a condiment with grilled meats, sandwiches, or snacks.

Tips:

  • You can use any type of apple, but tart apples like Granny Smith will add a nice contrast to the sweetness of the mango.
  • For a smoother chutney, puree some or all of the mixture after cooking.
  • This chutney can be enjoyed with cheese, crackers, grilled chicken, or pork.
  • You can also experiment with other spices like cardamom, star anise, or turmeric.

This Apple and Mango Chutney can be stored in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Adjust the spices and sugar levels to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy the sweet and tangy flavors!
